Wind & Weather Conditions
“The endless playground” is a kiteboarding adventure hosting the most versatile conditions to learn kiteboarding, improving your kitesurf skills, and shredding … from coral reefs to wildlife with turtles, you name it, a kitesurf dream location! The kitesurfing season runs from November to May-June with variable winds from North to South. kiteboarding hosts some of the best “southeast” winds with over 15 knots all season long meaning the peninsula invites Side onshore winds making the waves rise and glide across the Mexican Caribbean coastline. The average kite size is 12m with a twin-tip or 10m riding a surfboard. This all depends on riding style and ability. East and southeast wind, side-onshore, and onshore winds prevail from mid-February to the end of May, increasing the temperature and creating a constant warm breeze from 10-18 knots making kiteboard in Tulum an endless water sport.
This location is ideal for welcoming all rider abilities beginner, intermediate and advanced. The water conditions are sometimes challenging for beginners since some days we can have a big shore break and lacking proper independent & advance techniques to overcome waves can be frustrating for some. If this is your case private kitesurfing lessons are advised at a professional iko school so we can give you all the key pointers to practicing and developing new skills to perfect and enjoy a fun session on the water.
These weather conditions are excellent for our famous downwind sessions, from virgin areas in Sian-kaans biosphere to magical sessions in front of the Mayan ruins. check our downwinder activity here for more info.
The Caribbean breeze offers a variety of conditions to play with depending on which period of the season you would come at.
